International Year of Astronomy

In 1609, Galileo first turned his telescope to the sky and observed the universe.  Now today, 400 years later, we celebrate this anniversary and raise awareness of astronomy.  The International Astronomical Union and the United Nations have officially named 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy.  Many events throughout the region, country, and world are occurring throughout the year, bringing astronomy to the people.
